By Vijay @ 10:30pm

There is now a sequel to this ad, promoting the same features but in a different scenario. This time around the Galaxy S4 has already made it to the airliner. Here is the first ad, in case you’ve forgotten it.
And here is its sequel released a few hours ago.

It’s fun watching giants bashing each other on TV, isn’t it?

TaxiCOP, a real-time taxi fare calculator available now in Windowsphone stores

By Vijay @ 10:20pm

TaxiCOP

Have you ever questioned a taxi fare? Wonder if the cabbie took the most effecient route? TaxiCOP is a Windows Phone app that may help ease your concerns or tell you it’s time to switch cab services.

TaxiCOP will monitor your route, time, and mileage to make sure what you pay is accurate. I can see it coming in handy while traveling or if cab services are part of your day to day routine.

When you first launch TaxiCOP you will go through the set-up screen where you give the app authorization to use your location services, choose the distance units and set the pricing (distance and time) and choose the currency. TaxiCOP supports a very healthy list of world wide currencies ranging from Afghani to Zimbabwe dollars.

From there, user interface is rather simple. Tap the “Start” button on the main page of TaxiCOP as your cab ride begins. Your distance, duration and fare is displayed as you travel. When you get to your destination, press and hold the “Stop” button. I like the press and hold requirement because it prevents accidental taps from stopping the fare tracking.

TaxiCOP

Your trip history is logged to the app’s Recent Page where you can map out the route taken and compare it with Bing’s route recommendation. It will show if your cab ride took you off the beaten path instead of taking the less costly, more efficient path.

In just taking TaxiCOP out for a test drive, the distance calculations were spot on. I would have liked to have seen a way to log your cab history so you can track expenses, distances, and other variables collectively. The Recent Page is nice but you can only look at things trip by trip.

TaxiCOP is an attractive option for those wanting to keep track of cab rides and make sure what you’re paying is accurate.

There is a trial version available for TaxiCOP with the full version running $.99. It is compatible with both Windows Phone 8 and 7.x devices and you can find TaxiCOP here in the Windows Phone Store.

Sony providing insurance for their Smartphones in India

By Vijay @ 05:27pm

https://i0.wp.com/maxlevel.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/36_Xperia_Z_Ultra.jpg

Sony is one of the few brands that are offering water resistant smartphones in India. However, water damage is not covered under warranty. Essentially what it means is even if you are using a phone that is claimed to be water resistant and somehow manage to damage the phone by water, the device is out of warranty and the user will have to bear the cost of repair.

“Currently water damage is not covered under warranty as most of the times it is accidental. Our devices have the top industry rating. But it requires the ports to be closed,” said Tadato Kimura, Head, Marketing, Sony India.

However, Sony is looking at alternatives to tackle the situation. “It is a very sensitive issue and we are currently working out the details. We could provide customers with an option to take insurance for their phones that covers water damage,” Kimura informed.

Sony is currently working on it and it might take them a couple of months to offer insurance. Nokia already provides the option for customers to get insurance for their phones when they buy it from a Nokia exclusive store. The insurance covers water damage, accidental damage if the phone is dropped and even theft.

Ministry of External Affairs, India., launches ‘one stop shop’ information App

By Vijay @ 01:34pm

India’s external affairs ministry Monday launched a smartphone app – MEAIndia – placing all its different wings as well as the 120 missions under one platform, becoming the first government ministry to do so.

“It’s a one stop shop to give you all you need to know,” said outgoing Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai after inaugurating the app at an event here. He retires July 31.Mathai said through the app the ministry had tried to “adapt and adopt” to the needs of communication today.

Earlier, ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said deciding to go in for the interactive app was a “leap of faith” as no other government department has ventured to do it.

The MEAIndia app will help users find out the nearest Indian mission or post for emergency consular assistance, if required, and also find out how to undertake the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and Haj Pilgrimage, according to a ministry statement Monday. The app will provide all the information required to apply for an Indian passport, locate the nearest Passport Seva Kendra, download the requisite forms, calculate the fees and even track your application status. Online application for passports is also on the way, says the statement.

“You plan to travel abroad for work or study and need to legalize your documents? MEAIndia simplifies the steps involved for you and helps you identify the authorized agencies for attestation/apostle of your documents,” says the release

Sony Xperia Z Ultra Phablet Now Offical in India for Rs. 46,990/-

By Vijay @ 01:17pm

Although I previously mentioned that Ultra Phablet launched in India. Now Sony had officially annouced the availability.

The 6.4-inch phablet will be available on e-commerce sites and retail stores across the country from August 2 onwards.

The Xperia Z Ultra is Sony’s first phablet with 6.4-inch full HD 1080p TRILUMINUS display, something which the company uses in its high-end HDTVs. With 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor paired with 2GB RAM and included 3,000mAh battery with STAMINA mode, Sony claims this phablet can survive up to 16 hours of talk time and up to 820 hours on standby mode.

On the photography front, the phablet features an 8-megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom and an Exmor RS sensor. This is complemented with a 2-megapixel camera at the front. To store your photos, videos and other multimedia files, Sony offers 16GB of internal memory that is expandable up to 64GB using a microSD card.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra

On the software front, the phablet runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but as Sony’s recent software update roadmap revealed, the device will soon get the 4.3 Jelly Bean update. Additionally, like the Xperia Z, this phablet too is IP55/IP58 certified, which makes it waterproof and dust resistant.

Sony is pitching this product to rival Samsung’s Galaxy Note phablets. Though it doesn’t have a stylus bundled, according to Sony, one can write and sketch on its screen with a pencil, pen or a capacitive stylus that has a tip of over 1mm in diameter.

As an introductory offer, Sony has tied up with Vodafone to offer buyers with 8GB of free 3G data each month for a period of two months.

All About Google Chromecast wireless streaming

By Vijay @ 09:34am

Just as exciting as Android 4.3 and the new Nexus 7 tablet, is Google’s latest device, the Chromecast.

A tiny HDMI dongle, the size of a thumb drive delivering endless YouTube, Netflix, Google Music, Pandora, and web content to your HDTV for streaming anything and everything. Easily stream content to your big screen for only $35. Andriod Community have had some hands-on. So take a peek after the break.

Lumia 1020 WP_20130724_11_15_57_Pro

As you can already tell from the images, the Chromecast is a 3-inch dongle the size of most USB thumb drives. It has micro-USB on one end (for power, FYI) and the other is a full-size HDMI plug to stream 1080p video right to your TV and home theater. You’ll need micro-USB to power it, which wasn’t mentioned. Overall it’s small, and extremely portable, but we’re worried the bubble on the end will waste two HDMI ports, which could be an issue for some.

The size aside, which hopefully isn’t an issue, this thing has some serious potential. Plug in the micro-USB for power and start throwing HD video, Netflix movies and anything you’d like right to the television for the entire family to enjoy. Using a Wifi 2.4 GHz band (no 5 GHz) to talk to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop, the Chromecast will let you instantly stream things to the big screen.

Lumia 1020 WP_20130724_11_15_47_Pro

Chromecast has some serious potential, and we’re looking for more details (such as mirroring) but for now it only works with a select set of apps. Those being YouTube, Netflix, Pandora Radio, Google Play Music, TV, and Movies, and of course full browsing using Chrome. The idea is dead simple too.

If you’re familiar with controlling any of those on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, it will be a breeze on the Chromecast because you use the device for controls. Our Android phones can truly control the entire experience now.

One important aspect is the Chromecast works on all devices, and is built to scale perfectly too. You can go from streaming a video from your Nexus 7, to swapping it out and “casting” a tab from Google Chrome on your iPhone 5 in seconds. It does it quick, accurately, and scales perfect. It works in sleep mode so you don’t waste screen time and battery life. So that’s a plus. It sounds too good to be true, but it’s indeed real!

For $35 this is a steal. Buy this amazing little addition right now for only $35.
