BlackBerry Z10 price slashed by Rs 11,000, now available for Rs 30,000/- in India

By Vijay @ 02:32pm

As expected BlackBerry has cut the price of its first BB10 smartphone. The Z10 is now available for Rs 30,000 at most retailers with BlackBerry dropping the price by Rs 11,000. Last week BlackBerry had announced it would write off between $930 million to $960 million in unsold inventory, mostly related to the Z10. It also said it would reposition the Z10 as an entry-level BB10 smartphone. The Q5 still remains the most affordable BB10 smartphone, available for approximately Rs 24,000. It remains to be seen whether the price cut has the desired effect, considering BlackBerry has agreed to a letter of intent from Fairfax Financial for a $4.7 billion buyout that would take the company private.

BlackBerry also intends to exit from the consumer market and hopes to focus on the enterprise and prosumer segment. With BlackBerry acknowledging that most of the phones sold in the previous quarter were running BB OS 7 and not BB10, we doubt this would be the last price cut.

Online store takes pre-bookings for Lumia 1020 before Nokia’s official India launch.

By Vijay @ 02:24pm

A couple of months back, Nokia announced its latest flagship called the Lumia 1020 at an event in New York. This WP is having a massive 41-megapixel PureView camera, and is set to arrive at our shores. Online retail store Snapdeal has started accepting pre-bookings for the Lumia 1020 and will ship the device in the first week of October.

The Lumia 1020 boasts a class-leading 41-megapixel camera with LED and Xenon flash, Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS), f/2.2 sensor and 3x lossless zoom. It uses a technique called oversampling that combines 7 pixels into 1 super pixel, to create 5-megapixel images that contain the details of a 41-megapixel image. This way the Lumia 1020 is able to not only capture incredible 5-megapixel images that give some point and shoot cameras a run for their money, but also facilitates lossless zoom.

In terms of specifications, the device flaunts a 4.5-inch AMOLED (1280×768 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor paired with 2GB of RAM. In addition to the aforementioned camera, it also includes a 1.2-megapixel front camera, 32GB of fixed internal memory, NFC connectivity and a 2,000mAh battery with support for wireless charging.

The Lumia 1020 runs on Windows Phone 8 Amber update and comes pre-loaded with a special camera app called Pro Camera and other apps like Nokia Music, Nokia Mix radio, Here Maps suite, Nokia Smart camera and Nokia Rich Recording.

There’s no word on any official pricing for the device yet…

First up was China, then other countries slowly gained the list. For example, a few days ago it went on sale in Germany (and it was the 64GB variant too!). Up next however, is going to be India. Details below.

Samsung announces Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear in India

By Vijay @ 09:23pm

Samsung has launched the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 3 smartphone in India along with its sidekick, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch. The flagship smartphone will set you back by a lofty ₹49,900 ($792), whereas the Galaxy Gear smartwatch comes at a similarly expensive ₹22,900 ($363) price tag.

The Indian model will run on Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa SoC, which means you won’t get the 4K recording option as on the Snapdragon 800 model to be sold in the US. You will, however, get the same 5.7-inch, 1080p Super AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage space, 13 megapixel camera, 3,200mAh battery and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The Galaxy Note 3 is Samsung’s most expensive smartphone in India as of yet and follows the trend of rising prices of flagship devices every year. Having said that, the popularity of these devices shows that clearly a lot of people are still willing to pay the big bucks to get their hands on these devices.

That may not necessarily be true for the Galaxy Gear, however. Being the first product of its kind on the market, Samsung is going to have a tough time explaining why you need this in your life and moreover, how exactly is it worth the price tag, which is more than most mid-range smartphones in the country. You can, for example, purchase the company’s Galaxy S II Plus for around the same amount of money.

Both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear will be available in stores starting September 25 at the aforementioned prices.
