In our previous article I mentioned buyback offer by Sony, now Nokia has launched a buyback scheme on two of its most affordable Windows Phone 8 smartphones – the Lumia 520 and the Lumia 620 in India. The Finnish company is offering great discount deals on both the phones under this new exchange offer.

Those interested in buying these handsets can avail a minimum discount of Rs 4,000 on a brand new Lumia 520 which is currently priced for Rs 11,200 and a minimum Rs 6,000 off on the purchase of a new Lumia 620 handset which costs Rs 16,000 under the offer. This is a good strategy from Nokia as its most affordable Windows Phone smartphones will now be available for Rs 8,200 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Prior to this, brands like Apple, Samsung and BlackBerry had also launched similar offers on their handsets, and received a great response for the same.

Nokia publishes video revealing the magic Lens used behind Nokia Lumia 1020 (latest Nokia flagship device)

By Vijay @ 10:49pm

Nokia has released a video showing off the magic what happens inside the Lumia 1020, when you hit the shutter button to snap a photo.

The video is impressive, illustrating how the light hits internal components and the end result being transferred across circuitry to the PureMotion HD+ display. It confirms that there’s indeed a black magic at work here. Either that or Nokia has simply nailed it when it comes to smartphone photography.

Those who love Windows Phone like me & eagerly waiting for slimmest Lumia with aluminium body here is a good news for you’ll too.

Flipkart, the online retailer in India, has all three variants of the Lumia 925 listed – black, grey and white, priced at Rs. 33,999/- with expected delivery by 4th week of August. To Know you, Nokia Lumia 925 comes with 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Plus CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 4.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280×768 pixels, and 16GB of internal memory.

Unique to the Lumia 925 is its camera that improves on the 8.7-megapixel OIS camera found in the Lumia 920. Nokia improved its PureView image algorithms, and now it has added a 6-element lens with one element being made up of glass for sharper images. Of course, like before the device retains optical image stabilization (OIS). On the front, there’s also 1.2-megapixel snapper.

On the software front the Lumia 925 will be the first Nokia smartphone to ship in India with the Window Phone 8 Amber update, which includes upgraded Nokia Here maps stack, a glance feature and a new smart camera app. The phone will also be eligible to get the Nokia Pro camera app

It also happens to be the lightest and thinnest Lumia smartphone at 8.5mm and users can latch on a wireless charging cover to enable wireless charging on the device. Previously, the Lumia 920 had wireless charging built-in from the get go, but Nokia opted to remove it from the 925, in order to make it thinner and lighter.
Update: Now here is news from Times of India that along with Nokia Lumia 925, Nokia is also launching Lumia 625 in India at the same time ie by end of this August month.

Lumia 625, on the other hand will boast the largest screen seen on a Lumia smartphone to date at 4.7-inches, but will be a decidedly mid-range smartphone placed between the Lumia 720 and the Lumia 620. Its main USP will be the large screen at an affordable price point.

Microsoft announces Bing Apps for Windows Phone 8, brings News, Weather, Sports & Finance apps

By Vijay @ 07:47am

Bing Apps for Windows Phone

Yesterday Microsoft has introduced some apps based around the Bing search engine. Called as Bing Apps, the collection of four apps includes Sports, News, Weather and Finance, including Live Tile support for Windows Phone 8 devices.

The new applications bring all of the latest news right to the Start screen, continuing the “glance and go” usability that Windows Phone users have become accustomed to. Indeed, this is the first time, some real parallels between the desktop and mobile OS drawn and it should make using the two systems more seamless than before for new customers.

Watch our first-look video of the new apps in action and enjoy the gallery of screenshots after the break.

Now you can Voice Message through Watsapp

By Vijay @ 08:13am

Here’s a very Good News for Wats app Users around the World. The app, which has been receiving numerous updates in the last few months, has remotely enabled a new feature today: voice messages.

When users enter into a chat with a contact, to the left of the text window a microphone icon should now be present (see the photo above). Users can simply press and hold that icon to record a voice clip which is then sent instantly to the contact. The quality of the recording is excellent and it is certainly a welcome feature, especially with services like Voxer breathing down the necks of companies like WhatsApp.

You won’t need to update the app to enable this feature as it is being done so via their servers.

All in all, a pleasent surprise to what is becoming the go to messaging app. Pick up WhatsApp for Windows Phone here in the Store.

Can’t wait for Nokia Amber/GDR2 update for ur Nokia Lumia 920/820, its now available on Nokia’s servers, can be flashed (those who dare)

By Vijay @ 07:35pm

https://i0.wp.com/cdn.ndtv.com/tech/images/gadgets/nokia-lumia-920-and-lumia-820-635.jpg

For those of you who are eagerly waiting to get Microsoft’s latest OS release, Windows Phone 8 build 10327 (GDR2) along with Nokia’s highly anticipated Amber firmware update, here is some good news for you.

sites have noticed that the  download files are now available on Nokia’s servers for the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920. The files can be downloaded and you can flash your device directly, but you need to flash your device, which means wiping out your current data and starting fresh as you install this new ROM. In addition, you are likely going to miss any custom firmware, including possibly Data Sense, should you go down this route.

Because of those reasons, we don’t really advocate you go ahead and try this method. It requires some instruction following and some software installation, but we know some of you are tinkerers who don’t mind losing all your saved games and app settings. If that’s the case, head into and follow the instructions on the fan site Nokia Views, who have links to the ROMs for the Lumia 820 and Lumia 920.

Windows Phone 10327 (GDR2) is a minor OS update that brings FM radio, some enhancements to Xbox Music, WAV file playback for voicemail, fixed Other storage, and other minor bug fixes in addition to enabling the new hardware found in the Lumia 1020(41 MP Camera Phone). Nokia’s corresponding Amber update, which is what is causing the delays for release, allows the new Glance screen, flip to silence, Lumia Color Profile and an improved camera experience, making the combo of an update quite interesting for consumers.

Expected to release the update in August, enabling Data Sense. Now that we know that the final base OS and firmware package is on Nokia’s servers, it’s a safe bet that the update is almost ready, though as previous experience has taught us, the update will be staggered.

Want more than one image as your WP lock screen backgrounds. Here’s an app.

By Vijay @ 09:09am

Imagefusion

Imagefusion app enable you to create images for the lock screen background from local libraries. If you’ve used media players in the past where a collage of images are displayed from multiple artist albums, this is the same affect but with images you choose. The end result is best of all &  it’s free and really simple to use. Multiple sources can be used, including the profile pictures of contacts stored on the Windows Phone,  album covers from the local music library and photos from the local library. Images are loaded and tiled on the lockscreen to produce a collage of images that matter to you, adding a personalised touch to the first screen displayed when turning on the device.

Recently updated to version 2.0, Imagefusion now sports an image picker to let you pick the exact images you want in your lock screen background. A new “accent tint” effect has also been added to provide a lock screen tint to match the phone accent colour. It’s the little touches like this that really make the difference.

Imagefusion

As noted above, Imagefusion is free and also sports zero advertising so the experience is both clean and clutter-free. A total of six image effects can be added to the chosen collection of items, including black & white, polaroid, sepia, negative and accent tint. Images can be shuffled once selected to create a unique, random affect and it’s possible to preview the end result before applying it to the live environment.

Once done, you can save the result for further use externally, or directly apply the new lockscreen background from within Imagefusion. More filters are stated to be on the way, so be on the look out for future updates that include more choice. We’ve given it a go and can safely recommend the app, especially if you’re looking at more ways to personalise your Windows Phone.

You can download Imagefusion from the Windows Phone Store (available for free – Windows Phone 8 only).
