Indian smartphone vendor iBall has launched a new Android smartphone, which doubles up as a pocket projector, called the iBall Andi 4a Projector, the device is priced at Rs 18,999/- and is already up for pre-orders on e-commerce sites for a discounted price of Rs 17,999/-.

Coming to specifications, the Andi 4a Projector sports a 4-inch WVGA (480×800 pixels) display with a pixel density of 233 PPI and is powered by a dual-core Cortex A9 processor clocked at 1GHz supplemented with 512MB of RAM.

Other features included are an 8-megapixel rear camera, VGA front facing camera, expandable memory and a 1,500mAh battery, which is a bit low considering the phone also doubles up as a projector. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, 3G, GPRS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and on the software front, it runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The phone’s USP though is its built-in 35 Lumens projector, which can deliver WVGA (480×640 pixels) output up to a distance of 8 to 10 feet. The company is also bundling a free tripod with the phone to make it easier for projecting content.

This is not the first time we are seeing a device that doubles up as a projector. Smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Beam, Spice Popkorn Projector M9000 and Micromax X40 Projector Phone, have all tried to tempt people with the promise of a pocket projector, but with limited success.
