Microsoft shows the Iconia W3 in latest ad against Apple’s iPad Mini

By Vijay @ 08:22am

Microsoft recently released its latest commercial, published on the WindowsVideos YouTube channel, addresses the small tablet competition – namely, the iPad Mini. Taking the Acer Iconia W3 to the ring, the video shows off some of the cool features a tablet sports when running Windows 8.

The Acer Iconia W3 is a recent attempt by the manufacturer. Powering a full version of Windows 8, the Intel Atom processor combined with the loaded software allows you to install all your favourite x86 programs. As the footage boasts, you can enjoy some Halo, after working hard on word processing – it’s a real PC.

Not to mention the pricing. $429 for iPad Mini or $299 for the Iconia W3? Both have 32GB storage, but are worlds apart in terms of functionality.

Apple to extend charger takeback program in India in exchange with fake/third party chargers..

By Vijay @ 01:09pm

After a recent incidents with Apple users were electrocuted and some even died because fake or third party chargers, Apple announced it will start a charging power adapter takeback program where users can walk into Apple stores and authorized retail partners to give their third-party adapters and in return buy an original Apple adapter at 50 percent discount. Apple is looking at extending this program globally and will introduce it in India too sometime in mid-August. Without naming the countries where it will be rolled out, the official Apple statement mentions that the program will start from August 16 and will be in place till October 18.

This is a brilliant strategy from Apple as it will raise the important issue of using fake or poor quality chargers and adapters. Even though the incidents might have involved fake chargers, Apple could have been implicated for encouraging users to go for non-Apple chargers and adapters by pricing its accessories too high. The USB adapter for the iPhone 5, for instance, costs Rs 1,460/- in India. If Apple follows its 50 percent off scheme in India as well, users should be able to exchange any third-party adapter with an original Apple one for under Rs 800/-.

I feel atleast some people should utilize this offer, to avoid cheap & fake third party chargers, but at same time, apple also should reduce their prices, which are very premium & encouraging users to go for third party chargers, which are available at lesser than 50% of original chargers.

Comparision: Google Nexus 7 2 vs Google Nexus 7 vs Ipad Mini

By Vijay @ 09:23am

Google recently announced, second-generation Nexus 7, which increases the resolution tremendously to 1920 x 1200 pixels but with same screen size. But how does it stack up against Apple’s portable tablet warrior – the iPad mini? And is it worth than older Nexus 7?

GSMArena prepared a quick comparison table that’ll bring you another step closer in making your decision.

The new Nexus 7 2 is thinner and a tad lighter than its previous version. So it’s more comfortable to operate with one hand but still 10 grams heavier than the iPad mini which is also little wider.

Coming to screen resolution neither the iPad mini nor the first-gen Nexus 7 can hold a candle to Nexus 7 2′s WUXGA display. Its pixel density is almost double that of the iPad mini’s. Portable tablets not only need to be easy to handle, but also cheap to buy. Google asks $30 more for the Nexus 7 2 than it did with the original, but it’s still way better than the premium price charged by Apple.

Check out the table below to see how the Nexus 7 2 stacks up against the iPad mini and the first-gen Nexus 7.

That’s Google’s latest Nexus 7 slate is almost just like the original, but it sets the bar pretty high for other portable Android tablets and gives the competition a tough time.
