Nokia announced discounts on its latest Lumia 925 and Lumia 625 buyback offers

By Vijay @ 06:02pm

Nokia has extended the buyback scheme it had started with the Lumia 520 and Lumia 620, and has now included the Lumia 925 and Lumia 625. The company claims to now offer up to Rs 10,000 discount on the Lumia 925 and up to Rs 7,000 discount on the Lumia 625 when customers trade in their old smartphones. Under the scheme, the Lumia 925 is available for Rs 28,529 and the Lumia 625 for Rs 14,919. In reality however, the discounts are much lower.

The said discounts are exaggerated and are given on the phone’s MRP, which is much more than the MOP of these phones. Nokia mentions the MRP of the Lumia 925 to be Rs 38,529 while in India the phone was actually launched at an MOP of Rs 33,499. Similarly, the Lumia 625 was launched at Rs 19,999 and is already available for about Rs 16,000 at popular online retail stores. So the effective discount for exchanging an old smartphone against a new Lumia 925 or Lumia 625 phone would be Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively instead of Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 as highlighted by the company.

Those who love Windows Phone like me & eagerly waiting for slimmest Lumia with aluminium body here is a good news for you’ll too.

Flipkart, the online retailer in India, has all three variants of the Lumia 925 listed – black, grey and white, priced at Rs. 33,999/- with expected delivery by 4th week of August. To Know you, Nokia Lumia 925 comes with 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Plus CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 4.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280×768 pixels, and 16GB of internal memory.

Unique to the Lumia 925 is its camera that improves on the 8.7-megapixel OIS camera found in the Lumia 920. Nokia improved its PureView image algorithms, and now it has added a 6-element lens with one element being made up of glass for sharper images. Of course, like before the device retains optical image stabilization (OIS). On the front, there’s also 1.2-megapixel snapper.

On the software front the Lumia 925 will be the first Nokia smartphone to ship in India with the Window Phone 8 Amber update, which includes upgraded Nokia Here maps stack, a glance feature and a new smart camera app. The phone will also be eligible to get the Nokia Pro camera app

It also happens to be the lightest and thinnest Lumia smartphone at 8.5mm and users can latch on a wireless charging cover to enable wireless charging on the device. Previously, the Lumia 920 had wireless charging built-in from the get go, but Nokia opted to remove it from the 925, in order to make it thinner and lighter.
Update: Now here is news from Times of India that along with Nokia Lumia 925, Nokia is also launching Lumia 625 in India at the same time ie by end of this August month.

Lumia 625, on the other hand will boast the largest screen seen on a Lumia smartphone to date at 4.7-inches, but will be a decidedly mid-range smartphone placed between the Lumia 720 and the Lumia 620. Its main USP will be the large screen at an affordable price point.

Nokia Lumia 510 smartphone has now got a massive price cut and is available on certain India online retail stores for as low as Rs 6,190.

Gizmodo India has spotted the phone on e-commerce sites like Amazon India retailing for Rs 6,190.

This is quite the price drop if you consider the phone was launched in India for nearly Rs 10,000.

To remind you of the specifications, the Lumia 510 sports a 4-inch 800×480 pixels display and is powered by a Snapdragon processor clocked at 800MHz and paired with 256MB of RAM. Other features included are 5-megapixel rear camera, 4GB of fixed internal memory, and a 1,300mAh battery that Nokia claims is good enough for 6 hours of talk time and 738 hours on standby mode.

On the connectivity front, the device supports 3G and features Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and on the software front, the device runs on Windows Phone 7.8.

With this price cut, the device will be barging into Nokia Asha 501 territory, which retails in India for just over Rs 5,000. Except dual-SIM card slots and microSD card slot, you get much more on the Lumia 510 and this is could hamper the sales of the Asha 501.

Nokia’s YouTube Upload app – Hands on and more details

By Vijay @ 11:10pm

Nokia Video Uploader Lumia 1020

Nokia has published to the store their YouTube Video Upload app that enables users to simply and easily post their video creations to their accounts.

The app loads just fine on the Nokia Lumia 1020, which means this app may be exclusive to that device initially. Though being Nokia, we’re sure that they will deliver for their other Lumia line as they’re pretty good like that.In playing with the app, we can share a few details, some of which you can see in the video demo above:

The app uploads over Wi-Fi and Cellular:

  • If on Wi-Fi, full 1080P is posted (or highest resolution shot at).
  • If on cellular, it needs to be real short (couple of seconds) otherwise it prompts you to trim it down or wait for Wi-Fi
  • Using the native ‘Share’ feature, you can send videos directly to it
  • Background uploading is not supported at the moment

By default, videos are marked ‘Private’ though you can toggle this for each video upload. You can include the title, but no Tag support just yet.

Nokia YouTube Upload WiFi

The app is quite barebones and we’re sure Nokia will fine tune it over the coming weeks, but for now, it works as advertised, giving those with the Lumia 1020 a simple solution to a vexing problem.

You can find Nokia’s YouTube Video Uploader here in the Store. Nokia Lumia 1020 only at the moment. So Indians please wait for some more time..
